Herma and her late husband moved to Malika, a village north of Dakar, over 15 years ago. After Gerhard died, Herma stayed on to conduct small group studies, youth groups, children's programs and generally support the local assembly. This period included 14 years of ministry to women in prison. She now teaches reading and writing to young people in her village and runs a non-profit workshop which makes drums and other objects of wood. She also has opened her home as a rest and recreation site for other missionaries.
